About Our Chapter
Who We Are
We are a community of churches committed to creating life-changing moments for children who have experienced relational trauma.
What We Do
We provide a safe place where children in foster care can learn to develop healthy relationships, build trust and begin healing.
Why We Do It
We are motivated by the teaching and example of Jesus. We feel called to show children that their stories are still unfolding.
Our Story
Our story began in 2016 when a group of people dreamt about what their churches could do to impact the lives of children who have experienced abuse, abandonment and neglect. In 2020, we began our journey of becoming an official For The Children chapter. Despite the challenges brought on by COVID-19, we became FTC San Diego and held our first camp in summer 2021. Four different churches came together for a singular purpose — providing a safe environment for kids in foster care to have a second chance at childhood. We got to experience firsthand the difference a 5-day camp can make.
Our camp provides a space where children entering or already in the child welfare system can learn to develop healthy relationships, build trust, and begin healing. When a child goes to one of our camps they receive attention and encouragement from multiple trusted adults. It’s our hope that each child leaves with an understanding that they are special and valuable. Each camper participates in a variety of fun activities designed for their success and building self-esteem. It’s the best week of the year – a special time when they can focus solely on having fun and enjoy being a kid.
