Gram & Pops Corner
Throughout the week of Royal Family Kids Camp, Gram (Chavonne) and Pops (Milton) had the privilege of connecting with each camper. Campers were able to be themselves, create artwork, build wooden planes, throw a frisbee, play games, talk about the things going on in their hearts or not talk at all. These moments allowed for avenues where we were able to build relationships and rapport with them. Gram and Pops were able to be a part of every event with the campers — meals, chapel services, games — as well as pray with each cabin in the evenings.
At first, we were nervous to serve at RFK camp since this was our first time. But God reminded us that we just needed to be ready and willing and he will do the heavy lifting. During camp there were humbling moments as we needed to lean on others and the Lord to guide us. There were scary moments since we wanted to be a blessing and not mess up. There was also joy as we saw the hand of God in every single moment. And peaceful moments as we sat back and saw all the sweet campers faces looking back at us and knowing they are God’s glory!
We can't wait to help in the years to come, to see returning faces and check in with them and welcome new campers into a special week. Even though we don't get to stay in contact with these campers once we part ways, they are FOREVER imprinted in our hearts and minds. We pray for them, think about them and miss them. God is our hope.
